I have a 17" MacBookPro, it is an early Intel version with 2.16GHx Core Duo processor. My power adapter failed. I went to a local store with adapter in hand and ask for a replacement. When I got home I realized that my old adapter was an A1172 "Apple 85W Portable Power Adapter" and the new one I had been sold was an A1290 "85W MagSafe Power Adapter". Is this the correct adapter for my computer, or should I return it?
The A1172 is about 3" x 4" x 1" Thick and the new A1290 is 3" x 3" x 1". Do I need the larger A1172 for the 17" MBP or is that smaller unit an updated replacement that will work as well or better?
Thanks,
Dave

Are all 85W MagSafe Adapters the same?
