G4 iBook Battery gets very hot!

Okay, so I just got this iBook given to me that had the video chip issue. I fixed it with a penny under the heat sink and a 3m pad under the mother board, it has been working great now for over a week!

But not the battery, it works sometimes and not others and it can get very hot. Last night I put it on our washing machine lid and this morning I was very happy I did, it was so hot I couldn't pick it up. I googled and found a recall on the iBook batteries and thought okay that's the issue, but my battery isn't covered! After a call to Apple they say that it's probably fine?! I don't know what to do it seems to keep getting hot every now and then, I'm not using it but I'm afraid it's going to explode.
