M-Audio Radium 61 not working with Garageband

Hello all,

I am trying to use my M-Audio Radium 61-key midi controller with Garageband. I used to be able to use it just fine with my old Powerbook G4 (titanium) using Garageband 1 and 2. Now that I try to use it with my Macbook and Garageband 5, it just doesn't work.

I have my keyboard connected directly to my laptop via USB. It does turn on as evidenced by the lit LCD display. After opening Garageband and open the keyboard window (apple-K), I notice that nothing happens on the screen (or speakers) when I hit any of the keys.

I tried going to the Audio Midi Setup after installing the MIDI driver found at M-audio's website because several websites suggested it, and Garageband does see a MIDI input. However, this does not translate to a sound when I hit the keys. I have the default grandpiano selected, and I am able to hear the instrument when I use musical typing.

Can anyone please help me figure out what is going on here?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7)
