How do I import information from Lotus Organizer?
Hi,
I'm considering switching from a Windows PC zu Mac. I have very many and important data in my Lotus Organizer 5.something.
In FAQ for iCal I read
Question 6: How do I import information from other calendar programs into iCal?
Answer: ...Check with your calendar application's publisher to see if it works with the iCalendar specification.
I guess, there is nobody who can answer this question, because AFAIK Lotus has stopped any support for Organizer (maybe Lotus even stopped the company).
My question: is there any facility to copy my Lotus Organizer data (at least the dates, addresses, activities) to iCal or do I have to start from scratch?

Hi Herbert,

If Lotus Organizer can export to csv then there are lots of ways to import from csv into iCal.

Hi John,
thanks for your answer. As I see in Lotus Organizer I first have to install extra converters! There are converters for MS Outlook97/98, ACT!, 3.x, Day Timer Organizer98, and Sidekick97/98. Does anyone sound familiar to you?
I fear now the trouble starts: to perform a conversion I have to search for the Lotus converters, then install them, then download some updates for the converters, then find out if among the named converters is one for csv, then ...
Maybe, it is less time consuming to forget all my calendar activities, all other activities, and my address data base in LO 5.x and start from scratch.
I will post the same question in a LotusOrganizer-Forum.

Hi Herbert,

Try exprting the data for MS Outlook97/98, then opening the exported file with a text editor. If the contained info is enclosed in quotes and seperated by commas, it's a csv.

Pardon my butting in with my ignorance regarding Lotus Organizer.

1) There was a recent discussion re Lotus Notes. I have no idea if this is related but here it is: Dan Powers1, "iCal and Lotus Notes" #9, 12:01am Sep 22, 2005 CDT

2) Surely Lotus Organizer has some kind of export option without adding converters, no?

hi,
thanks for the link. I agree with what you wrote in that discussion: 'but at this point I really am not looking to add more technology to my life to fix what should be a simple problem.'
When calling Conversion in LO 5.x it tells me to first install some converters (these should be on my installation CD, which should be somewhere in my cellar).
When calling Export in LO 5.x it tells me it can do this into the formats: TXT, DBF (dBase, FoxPro), VCF, VCS (vCard, vCalendar), LCS (Lotus iCalendar).

Hi Herbert,

On the face of things, exporting to VCS (vCard, vCalendar) or TXT would be a good start. It should be possible from either of these formats to get your basic data into iCal.

LCS (Lotus iCalendar) being an iCalendar format may work directly, but I doubt it.
