half white, half off white

There have been many posts about the yellowish tint on some new iphones, but not quite as many about unevenness on the screen starting from the bottom(darker/yellowish) to the top brighter/whiter on the 3Gs. I have heard some people say that their phone is consistently uniform throughout the entire screen, and others have said they have seen even screens on display at the Apple store. Every iPhone I have checked out including all models has had this issue with an uneven screen(varying degrees.) One can especially tell when viewing a white screen in landscape. The first time I checked out my 3Gs I noticed the unevenness. I never really noticed this on my 2G, but after further investigation I found that even my 2G had the same type of thing, but that it just wasn't as noticeable. Is there actually an iPhone out there that doesn't have this issue, or does this fall into Apple's specs for the iPhone?

I have a black 32g 3Gs and it is tinted yellow on the bottom third of the screen. It's not horrible but I did notice it straight away. It does look worse outside but inside it looks a lot better. Perfect phone other than that.

Most likely I will just live with it as I don't have the time to be bothered with it and drive an hour to the closest Apple store. I could use the mail option and at some point maybe I will. For now I'm just having fun with my new iPhone. I upgraded from a 2G and love all of the new options.

Then again I just have a tint of yellow on my screen. If it were worse I would not hesitate to replace it.

I didn't notice it on my 3Gs until I started reading this forum. It is very slight though. I have to look for it by using the flashlight app or by looking at certain full white screens. I still sometimes wonder if I'm really seeing it, or if it's just in my mind. My wife said she can't see it.

I checked out my friend's 3G, and his appears to have the same effect (although to a slightly lesser degree). I'm convinced now that if I tried to get a replacement, I'd get one that is worse. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my phone and don't want to risk getting one with more problems.

FWIW, this is my first attempt to buy an Apple product. So much for Apple being elite.

On my phone, at least, it has to do with the angle of viewing. If I turn my phone around so that the home button is at the top, it's still the "bottom" of the screen (that used to be the top of the screen if you are following me) that has the slightly yellow cast. It's very slight, however, and not anything that bugs me or that I'm worried about.

The flashlight app really does show the yellow tint on the bottom. I too can also always tell which end of the screen is the bottom. The yellow is always there.

I went out to dinner tonight and the lighting in the restaurant made the yellow tint on my phone almost disappear. Maybe that's why the display iPhones in the Apple store always look so good.

I'm not worried. Apple will get it sorted.
