Configuring Motorola Canopy with an iPhone through a Mac Book Pro

I have a Motorola Canopy that has a web interface that is similar to a commercial wireless router which I am trying to configure with an iPhone.

I created a computer-to-computer network using a one-word user Name on Channel: Automatic (11) that requires a Password with 40-bit WEP.

The Motorola Canopy default configuration IP: 169.254.1.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0, Gateway IP: 169.254.0.0, DHCP is disabled.

When I connect direct to the Motorola Canopy via the Ethernet on my MacBook Pro I am able to ping to 169.254.1.1 with the Network Utility. I am also able to access it’s configuration via Safari by using http://169.254.1.1 as the URL. This is very similar to any commercial wireless router.

Network Utility -> Info shows:
Ethernet (en0) IP: 169.254.253.66
Airport (en1) IP: 169.254.253.66

System Preferences -> Network
Ethernet is Using DHCP, IP: 169.254.253.66, Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

My iPhone is connected with an IP: 169.254.220.197, Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
From my MacBook Pro I can Ping 169.254.220.197.

But the mobile Safari is not able to access my Motorola Canopy via the default http://169.254.1.1 URL. I always get a “Cannot Open Page, Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server”.

I am able to ping the MacBook Pro via my iPhone with Ping Lite from Mocha Soft. But if I ping the Motorola Canopy from the iPhone I get no response.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

Thanks,

-SS
