iPod Touch Widescreen TV

Hey folks...

Got myself the Apple iPod component cable today. I have it hooked up to my Sony HDTV - I have a question to see if anybody here might know.... I was under the impression that if I set the Widescreen option in the video settings of my iPod Touch to 'on' it would send a widescreen 16:9 480p signal (if set to 'off' then it would send a 4:3 480p signal. However even with the widescreen option set my TV is only reporting that it is a 480p 4:3 signal. So I have to tell my TV to do a 'wide zoom' to the picture (meaning to stretch the image to fill the entire width of the TV).

Shouldn't the iPod touch being sending a widescreen signal when set to Widescreen 'on'?

I am running software version 3 btw.

Cheers!

480p can be either be 4:3 or 16:9 - yes I know its progressive and not interlaced.

I am not asking about the iPod's screen itself - I am asking about the video format that is sent via the TV Out on the iPod. If set to Widescreen on then it should be 480p widescreen signal (16:9) and the TV should recognize it as such (as opposed to a 480p 4:3 signal). The size of the iPod screen will not matter - the video will need to be scaled by the iPod before being sent via the TV Out to ensure it is a true 480p or 578p signal.
