M-Audio Fast track Pro Interface...not interfacing?

When I go to Mac System Preferences / Sound - and select M-Audio Fast TrackPro USB: Line Input -as my choice for a device for sound input - I get a message in the selection area claiming - the selected device has no input controls. The device is plugged into the mac via USB and the FastTP unit is displaying the blue power indicator. My head phones work fine with the unit but my microphone does not work (no input available per the mac message).

I have an AT3035 Audio Technia Microphone plugged into the Fast track pro device. Please Help.

Imac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

+Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup+ is the right place to set this up, not System Preferences.

Then in Logic, +Preferences > Audio > Devices > Core Audio > Device: (your interface)+

Ok thanks for the tip - I will try this as soon as I get home and confirm success if it works - What are your thoughts on the messages in the System Preferences though? If that portal is closed or not available - won't the rest of the settings be useless down the food chain?

That is right, it has no input (software) controls. It has Inputs though. If I am not mistaken, you have to set levels by turning physical knobs on the unit itself. "No input controls" means the Mac can not alter the input levels on the FT, because for that you have to turn the real knobs.

But, as someone else remarked, you have to set it up in Audio-MIDI Setup. After you've done that, you can record into Logic by selecting the appropriate input and turning up the Level on the unit. Also make sure phantom power is on when you use the AT mic.

thanks for the tip - these changes did need to be made but I still am not getting input data? No lights- nothing ( just headphones)? Any other suggestions? If the headphones work does that mean drivers ok?

Hi,
Did you check the position of your direct monitoring knob on the FTP? I think if it's all the way to the left, you'll only hear what's plugged in your interface and if it's all the way to the right, you'll only hear what's coming from the computer/software in your headphone. You have to put it in the middle if you want to hear the same amount of direct input AND what you recorded in Logic.

I also updated the driver at the M-Audio Web-site - I'm using OSX_1-1.7-2v2. Osx_1.7.1-1 didn't work either?

Thanks for all the tips - I doubled checked all my settings then went to the cord - found that it was bad.
