Q to the Pro's: ADAT Interface Channel Assignements with Alesis io|14

Hello all,

* Problem Outline
ADAT Channels via Alesis io|14 Firewire Interface into Logic Express 8 does not work, channels do not show up.

* My Setup
Fostex Digital Mixer -> ADAT -> Alesis io|14 -> FireWire -> Mac -> Logic Express 8

* Description

Using the io|14, Logic correctly shows the io|14's 14 channels. All analogue inputs work as expected.

Now, with the Digital Mixer connected via ADAT, looking into Alesis's Monitor Software 'HDM', the level meters reveal that the input signals from ADAT appear on an input channel greater than 14, like 16 or 19.

Of course, Logic won't let me select any channel > 14 because the driver reports only 14 channels...

Does anyone have a tip how to solve this and work with the ADAT channels from Logic? Probably these channels need to be rerouted or something like that?

Yes — but not in Logic. It would be the Alesis that needs adjusting. You will have to check your Alesis manual to see how to do this.

Of course I've already read the manual in its entirety.
There is no usable information in the manuals currently
available from Alesis' website. (Or, I am blind)

Also, I was unable to google any useful insights on this specific problem.

How many channels does it support? More than 14, obviously…

Do you think there may be a way of mapping later channels to earlier ones? And why were these later channels assigned these numbers in the first place? Perhaps if you look earlier in the chain you may find a clue.

It has 14 input channels, hence the name io|14.
There are 4 analogue inputs, 8 ADAT and 2 S/PDIF.

However, all ADAT Channels are greater than 14, as shown in
the Alesis HDM Montor application.
(eg. first ADAT-Channel becomes #16, and so forth)

Anyway… there must be a reason why it is assigning these ADAT Channels to higher numbers than it can actually output. Perhaps you have already assigned 1-14 to something else? And I still think there must be some kind of mapping function to deal with this. I would have thought that by default, 15 would map to 1, 16 to 2, & so on… perhaps you can select banks of channels?

It's a shame the manual isn't clear. You can't find a Forum anywhere for users of this device?
