G5, DVI to ADC Adapter & Belkin Switch

I've got a Dual core 2ghz G5 running 10.4.11, currently connected to a 23" old style cinema display.

I have bought a DVI to ADC adapter (the one with power) and a Belkin DIV-D Switch so that I can run a PC and the G5 through the display.

The problem that I'm having is that the G5 won't start up when connected through the switch, it just turns off when OS X is booting.

If I boot the mac and the connect the the screen via the switch then I get no picture on the diplay, although the keyboard and mouse appear to work.

Everything works fine for the PC.

Any ideas?

Is this a KVM switch?
Is the KVM switch explicitly stated as being ADC compatible?
Any drivers from Belkin?

Hi-

I would check with Belkin regarding ADC monitor support.
Some KVMs do not play well with ADC monitors.

Does say it supports Apple Cinema Displays.

I would take that as referring to the Aluminum DVI monitors, unless the ADC monitors are specifically stated.

The display works fine for the switch with the PC, it's only the G5 that is the problem. So it would point to the issue being with the G% rather than the switch not working with the display.

How about the switch not working with the G5?
I'm not trying to give you grief.
I am just saying that there are known issues when using ADC monitors with switches that aren't specifically intended to use them.

I would check with Belkin on the issue.

BTW, does the G5 and the monitor work without the switch?

Hi,

The display works fine with the G5 on it's own.

Tried it with the switch out of the loop and the DVI to ADC Adapter in the loop and it doesn't work. So pointing to the G5 not liking the Adapter or the second DVI socket on the G5 not working.

Is that socket only intended for second displays and not for connecting the main display to?

No.
Could be a bum card, at least on the DVI side.
Would be nice to test the DVI port with a DVI monitor (no adapters).

Tried the set up on another G5, doesn't work.

How can I ask Apple if the G5 supports the DVI to ADC adapter?

I just bought a KVM and this time I went with a Gefen, and while it is just for DVI, it works quickly and reliably. In the past I always bought cheaper units and was never satisfied.

Don't think it's the switch that's the problem but the G5 not supporting the £70 Apple ADC to DVI adatper!

Yes, I saw that when I looked over the thread, but I thought might be 3rd party ADC2DVI in their product list, and while I was hesitant spending so much on just dual DVI KVM, can't ask for better.

Could the adapter 'go bad' and still be warrented?

The adapter is second hand but it does work when connected to the PC, allowing me to use that with the 23" display. Just not when connected to the G5.

When I looked at KVM and what it supported, one thing that stood out to me were graphic cards. .. any chance that adapter doesn't work with your video card then?
