Transferring files for a book?
What type of file is the most likely culprit when the message says trouble transferring one file - retry and retry gives the same results?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7), all software updates

It could be any file. We need more information. Are you trying to order a book? Can you copy the warning message exactly and post it? Have you tried previewing your book by creating a PDF file of it and checking all of the pages. If you can't create the pdf file you might get another messages that will help identify the culprit.
