3G Bluetooth not turning on in settings after OS3 (spinning wheel)

Hi,

I am facing a really strange issue. After upgrading to OS 3 on my four month old iPhone 3G , I cannot turn Bluetooth on in Settings > General > Bluetooth > enable. Whenever I try to turn it on, it simply shows an endless spinning wheel. When I click on back and reenter the Bluetooth settings page, the slider is still in the off state. This used to work perfectly uptil OS3. There were no issues with the upgrade to OS3, even though I had a passcode set (which seemed to have wrecked other iPhones)

All the other functions seem fine, although I m noticing a 25%-30% drop in battery power since moving to OS3, but I think that's a general problem. Wifi is working perfectly ... Which is a huge sigh of relief for me!

To clarify, I am NOT trying to pair the iPhone with another Bluetooth device (yet!). I m simply trying to turn the ****** thing on. I've tried all the answers that I could google including:

- turning airplane mode on n off (a few times)
- turning the phone on n off a few times using only the power button
- holding power n main buttons down till it reboots
- trying to create a few dummy VPN settings
- settings > general > reset > reset network settings
- settings > general > reset > reset all settings
- iTunes restore

any help would be appreciated. I m itching to try out the new version of Flight Control with P2P via Bluetooth !!

🙂

I've got the exact same error on my iPhone 3G as you, except that it worked fine for a month or so after upgrading to OS 3.0. Pairing, syncing and tethering has been working with no problems.

I don't use bluetooth every day, so I've turned it off and on many times to save battery, without any problems.

But suddenly today, it won't turn on at all... only a spinning circle and then back to off 😟

I also searched, and tried some of the solutions you did, with no luck:
- turning airplane mode on, waiting 30 sec, and turn it on again
- turning the phone off using only the power button, and turn on again
- holding power + main buttons down untill it reboots and apple logo appears
- settings > general > reset > reset network settings
- settings > general > reset > reset all settings
- iTunes restore

Also tried the following combi (which apparently helped some 2.x users):
- Hard reboot iPhone. Press and hold the home key and power key together until screen goes blank and the boot screen is displayed then release.
- Enable Airplane mode.
- Enable Bluetooth. This will dis-engage airplane mode – pls note it still won’t enable.
- Press the home key and return to the settings menu.
- Enable Airplane mode.
- Disable Airplane mode.
- Enable Bluetooth.

Nothing works, still shows "0". I can't activate the button so it goes blue and shows "I" 😟

ANY help would be VERY appreciated.
I bought the phone 2 moths ago, and have not jailbroken it or anything.

Thanks in advance.

Are you SURE you did a RESTORE through iTunes and that didn't help? Try a new restore, select "restore as a NEW iPhone" (I know it's there somewhere) and DO NOT apply the backup right away. That way, the iPhone will work as brand-new device.

This should be definitely a software issue, so a restore is the last resort. This issue has been around the forums for quite sometime. I guess you should all do some digging in case you find a solution.

Hello,

I got the same problem. I got an Iphone 3G 16Go (Firmware 3.1.2), and I can't turn on Bluetooth.

I even have done a hard reset (restore as new iphone), but I can't manage to turn Bluetooth on.
When I turn the switch on, it spins for about 10 seconds and then go back to 0.
I tried with an headset in pairing mode and with the Bluetooth in my Macbook on, but it didn't work.

I tried the various methods with airplane mode on/off, reset device, shutdown device, but nothing works.

Does anyone have an idea how I can make the Bluetooth work?
Any advices are welcome.

Curious! Just as strangely as it had stopped working, my Bluetooth has started working again

I did not do any restore/backup. Neither have I installed any new apps in the last two months, nor have I applied any apple patches/OS upgrades

hmmmmm. Extremely strange. It points to a software issue of some sort, IMHO. Strange to have completely different people facing the same issue with their iPhones ... With all other functionalities working fine, and only Bluetooth affected

Is it working for anyone else as well?

Same problem here.

one day, suddenly, bluetooth worked (i. e. the I blue switch showed instead the grey O. Then it did`nt

Restored iPhone (as new) and it worked once. Backuped data and started to work
Restored again and it didn't work no more.

****** off because I paid for a change of iPhone because the other one couldn't use wifi and now this one doesn't bluetooth. I am not in warranty as far as Apple is concerned but I am in warranty this phone provider movistar in Spain. But this guys are real crooks and they don't repair anything.
