How can I burn albums of 90 minutes on CDs using iTunes?
Recently I bought a supply of blank CD-R discs, for burning music from iTunes playlists. The new CDs have a capacity of 800MB, or 90 minutes of music. This is ten minutes more than all the other CD-Rs I have used. One playlist I now want to burn is about 82 minutes long, so it should fit comfortably onto an 800MB CD. However, when I insert one into the Mac and click "Burn Disc", iTunes tells me the playlist will not fit.
I tried ignoring this, but the burning stopped with one track to go (total 3 minutes), when iTunes told me to insert another blank CD. The recorded (slight shadowed) area on the recording face of the burnt CD shows that there was still room available on it - radially about 4 mm.
How can I get iTunes to perform burning up to 90 minutes?
iTunes cannot handle burning 90 minute audio CDs. Maybe this will be remedied in a future release (although burning is not an area that iTunes has been enhancing lately).
You can try other burning programs. If you use iTunes, minimize your frustration by keeping the playlists comfortably under 80 minutes.
Thanks ed2345. I'll try to contact Apple to suggest iTunes burning be extended when necessary. If I don't succeed, I'll take your helpful advice and find another burning program.
The playlist that exposed this limitation was a downloaded music recital, so I very reluctantly had to remove the last track in order to make the CD.
Now CDs are available for 90 minutes, there's a need for burning programs that can handle them.
