HI Rob,

First try deleting this file. com.apple.Safari.plist

/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

If that doesn't help, if you can get Safari to launch, from the Menu Bar, click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset and restart your Mac.

Look in ~Library/Input Manager and ~Library/Internet Plugins. Delete anything in those folders and restart your Mac.

If nothing helps, get Cocktail Run the maintenance scripts Click the Pilot tab then click Tasks Make sure Daily Weekly and Monthly are checked and click the Run button. When it's done, Quit Cocktail, restart your Mac and try Safari.

Rob... please click My Settings on the right side of this page and tell us which Mac you have and which Mac OS X you are running, scroll down, click Save. That way the information is reflected in your Profile and easier for us to help trouble shoot. Thanks.

One last thing. Make sure Safari is running natively, not in Rosetta mode. Go to your Finder: Your Applications/Safari. Right or control click the application, then Command + I to open the Get Info window. Make sure Rosetta is deselected.

Before deleting anything, make sure your plugins and third-party add-ons that you may have which tie in to Safari are up-to-date. I'm referring to things like Flash, Silverlight, Safari Stand, Keywurl, etc. Anything that you've added on to enhance your surfing experience.

When I updated to Safari, I had crash after crash, and many freeze ups. Once I got all of Safari's supporting players up to date (make sure that the current versions clearly state they support Safari 4) my browsing experience has been top notch. Safari 4.02 is extremely quick and response. You'll enjoy it!
