"System log"? Maya autosave upon crash file location??

Hi, a while ago I read of a Maya user checking his Mac's "system log" (I believe that was the term used) to see where Maya had automatically saved a copy of a file he had been working on during a crash.

How can I access this "system log"?

Does anyone know where Maya automatically saves files during a crash?

Thank you....

your suggestion to explore Finder more thoroughly led me to use it as a keyword search resulting in this article:

go to a Finder window press Cmd ShiftG, and type /private/var/folders/ and press return. In that "folders" folder is a bunch of arbitrarily named folders, in one of those there should be a -Tmp- folder that will likely have some .ma recent recovery files.

Just unzip the file, and place it in a easy to find directory (I recommend the default Maya directory in your User/Documents/maya folder, so it is always easy to find).

HI,

I'm not sure what "Maya" is, but you can view crash logs.

How to locate a crash log:
1. Open Finder.
2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
4. Click the Go button.
5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks like the most recent.

The great thing about crash logs is that if your Mac is crashing and freezing you can post a log here. It helps to trouble shoot.

You can keep an eye on your computer's activity by opening Activity Monitor. (Applications/Utilities).

And this has to do this the System Log how? Be very careful. If you move a system file, your Mac maybe not startup the next time.
