iPlayer on Apple TV?

iPlayer on Apple TV?

Forgive me for asking a question which has probably been asked before.

I would like to get Apple TV, but one of the things I'd like to use it for is watching BBC iPlayer programs on my big TV rather than sat for an hour at a desk!

So, would I be able to do that? Thanks.

MacBook, iMac with Leopard, 13" MacBook Pro, 2nd gen 32 ipod touch, iPhone 3Gs, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

no.. iplayer is not available on the appletv.

No it cannot do that.

It can link to MobileMe gallery, Flickr and You Tube but these are selectable menu options rather than things you navigate to in a browser.

AppleTV does not have internet browsing capability.

I think the problem is that there are too many services out there for Apple to support them all for every country - while it's theoretically possible it doesn't do it. There are software hacks out there but they are not endorsed by Apple and cannot be discussed here.

Wait 10 months or so and you can bet there'll be a new AppleTV with Internet capabilities. It's Apples way of getting people to buy products more than once - they bring out a great innovation but slightly lacking on features, then make it even better etc etc. Not knocking it as it's a policy that certainly works! I'll certainly be buying a new one when this option comes out!

When Apple TV was first released it was the only game in town, and it advanced even further when HD programs were introduced for it in the iTunes store, but it has fallen behind. I started using an IPTV service recently that has an abundance of VOD in addition to all of the requisite cable TV channels. I've barely used my ATV since subscribing to the IPTV service. It will be hard to justify buying another ATV unless it's really spectacular. Otherwise, I won't need a replacement for my stylish but expensive A/V cabinet heater.

I see that many of the features of the Apple TV can now be found on the UK Fetch TV service (see www.fetchtv.co.uk). If Fetch TV can do it I'm sure Apple can. What are you waiting for Apple? Get a browser on Apple TV now!!!!
