How do you open specific ports

Hi all,

I'm trying to use connect360 with helps me stream files from a mac to an xbox 360. When I open it its says it needs to open ports. When I go to their support page, it says to:

If you have the Mac OS X firewall active on your Mac, Connect360 will remind you and help you configure it. If you are using other firewall software, you will need to open TCP port 9335 and UDP port 1900.

Well, it hasn't helped me do anything and when I try to use connect360 it says

"A required port appears to be in use, please free ports 1900 and/or 9335 if you wish to use Connect360"

Ok, great, how do I do this?

ps, before anyone tells me to add this to my firewall on leopard, it doesn't show up in the applications folder, I access it through system preferences....

I'm also using an airport extreme

Can anyone help?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Hi.
It can be your router that is causing the problem, on my bt home hub you can assign a action to a port it already has conect360 in its built in apps. Goto http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/XBCo nnect.htm this should help you with the problem, go back to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/AirP ortExtremeindex.htm
if you need other things hope this helps.

When you open it for the first time, the Mac should ask you if you want to allow it access. Clicking Allow should allow it to then open those ports. The error message you got seems to indicate something else has grabbed those ports and it cannot use them.

First off, try turning off the application firewall in the Security pref pane. See if it works with the firewall off.
Second, open Network Utility (Utilities folder) and run Netstat, display the state of all socket connections. Look for your IP address with .1900 and .9335 appended to the end. The foreign address should give you a clue as to what is grabbing control of that port.

This is what it shows with the netstat. Hopefully posting this doesn't give away any personal details.... but I didn't see anything with with those ports. Why does this have to be so difficult?? Didn't tiger have a utility with the firewall where you could just add the port. This seems so much more difficult with leopard.
