Exporting iTunes music to compact flash

My car has a compact flash card reader for playing music. I can't figure out how to move music from my iTunes library onto the compact flash card as MP3 files, it transfers them as M4A files. Help?

iMac, Macbook, Macmini, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Thank you very much, that is in process now. I have a thousand AAC files so it will take a while to complete the conversion. I assume that after I complete the conversion, I re set the preferences to continue to import via AAC? Also, do you have any idea how I separate out the mpgs from the AAc files in my library list? It looks like I know have two copies of every music file. again, Thanks
