iTunes audiobook download stuck on "processing"

I just bought this iPhone yesterday and have tried downloading a couple audiobooks from the iTunes store. I set up the account just fine, and everything seemed to be going okay until I got to the download screen and all
it says is processing. Thinking it might just be because it was a large file, I let it sit overnight, but still nothing but processing. No bar moving along, or anything. I was able to download and install a couple small apps while I was waiting on this with no problems. I am a Marine who just returned from a deployment, and won't have my internet set up until later next week, so I can't try downloading it from my computer and then synching it. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

It's not 100% clear from your description, but it sounds like you are trying to purchase and download the audiobook completely on your iPhone. If this is correct, then it should be possible, with one caveat: you cannot download anything larger than 5 megs over 3G. (This is policy, not a technical limitation.)

So, while most applications can download directly to the phone wherever you are, to get your audiobook to download, you'll need to be connected to a wifi network. If you don't have your own set up, and can't borrow one at a friends or neighbors, you can go to a Starbucks, where the wifi should be free to all iPhone owners.

Whoops, yes, mental lapse. But audiobook parts from the iTunes Store are generally around 30+ megs (at least, that I've downloaded), and audiobook parts from Audible can be over 200 megs! Virtually any audiobook is going to be well over 10 megs; 10 megs only gets you about 20 minutes of spoken word audio! (Depending on the format/encoding, of course.)
