Interchangeable battery?

No, a battery for a 14-inch iBook is bigger than one for a 12-inch and won't fit. However, a G4 battery will work in the G3 iBook. Batteries are getting so much better all the time that I'm not sure I would want to use a G3 battery in a G4 iBook, though.

I'm ready to replace the battery in my dual usb G3(white) iBook. I was told by apple that the battery that is sold for the G4 iBook will not work in my computer. They told me that they do not sell batterys any longer for this computer and I would have to buy a third party battery (which is quite a bit more expensive). Are they telling my the right thing?

That is not correct, all the way around. The G4 iBook battery works fine in the G3 dual USB iBook. (Maybe the person you talked to thought you had the older "clamshell" colored iBook.)

Also, third-party batteries can be found that are less expensive than Apple's.

Thanks for the feedback Rhonda. I made it clear to the apple rep that I had a white G3 dual usb iBook but she insisted that the current G4 iBook battery that apple sells would not work. I thought this sounded odd since the iBook G4 power adapters work just fine(in fact I'm using one right now). I would rather buy the apple battery if it works since it is quite a bit cheaper than the third party batteries I've been able to track down. It also says on apple's web site that portable batteries could be ordered from authorized apple repair centers for up to 7 years after your iBook or powerbook was made. This also seems to be in conflict with what the rep told me. I think I'll call again and see if I can talk to someone with more knowledge. The current G4 battery does have a different part number than my old battery so I'm not sure if this is the source of confusion.

You never did tell me whether your iBook is the 12 or 14-inch model.

It will say, "There are no items in this category," but if you click on "Laptop Batteries" in the left sidebar and then "Apple Laptop Batteries," you will find third-party batteries substantially cheaper than Apple's.

I have other links, but this one lists both the 12-inch and 14-inch batteries.

My G3 is a 12". The prices look pretty good even factoring in shipping and exchange(I'm in Canada). I have not heard of this company before. Has anyone had any experience with this company/batteries?
