I am getting a funky smell coming from my keyboard. I have cleaned the board with some canned air but it still stinks. It doesn't smell like anything burned but more like body odor (yeah, I know, "eww"). I keep my computer pretty clean and I bathe regularly, so I don't know what it can be. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The only problem with it, Ronda, is that it contains alcohol. I used alcohol on my iBook and i have strokes that are visible in bright sun on the screen... Not Pretty...

Well, about this whole respect and courtesy:
I had to ring apple because my hard drive had crashed, and the woman was telling me that I had do force my computer to restart and was explaining to me where the keys are when I had already done it. I think that their service is great, but I also think that Apple should find out more about their customers and find out if they know how to do things before the explanation of great detail starts.
Jeff
P.S. There was only one member of their staff that I talked to which was like I didn't know anything, the rest treated me like one of their customers was worth something and were interested in asking me if I know how to do what they said to do.

I wasn't suggesting using it on the screen. Do you have some of the stuff? What else is in it besides alcohol?
There is a list of stuff that is in it on the site that it's on.
I don't personally use it, thought I know from expierience, it you have alcohol on the keys, when you close the lid some of the alcohol may transfer onto the screen. I know this because it happened to my mum's powerbook...
I also used a product with alcohol on my iBooks screen before I knew that it was bad for it, so when using my iBook in sunlight, I can see this permanent wipe mark on the top half of my screen. I wish I could get it off, but as yet, I have found no solution.
b If anyone knows anything about taking off that smudge, I would be forever grateful to know about it.

I was wondering if the iBook smell is present in the New G4's, the early 2004 releases.
Hard to tell, Sean. People have said it develops as long as two years into the life of an iBook. It is a very rare problem, though. Not something to worry about.
If you are really curious about it, you might post the question over in the iBook G4 forum.

Did your mother allow the alcohol to dry thoroughly before closing her iBook after applying alcohol to the keyboard?
If so, I would suggest just using it on the underside of the keyboard, and, as I said to begin with, not very much, at that. Perhaps dabbed on with a Q-Tip and then wiped off with a soft cloth.
People here are having to put up with a really offensive odor. Nearly any deodorizer you would apply would have ingredients which are of questionable safety for your iBook's keyboard and/or screen. Therefore, anything you try to use should be applied very carefully and sparingly. And I would let the keyboard dry (and air out) several hours before putting it back into the iBook.

Apple recommends
iKlear. Don't know if it will take off your smudges or not, but it's worth a try.
You might post a query in the Displays forum about it.

Do you know if there is any way I can get this product in Australia (since I live there... lol...)
Thanks again

No problem. Now, I just hope it works for you. I think if anything can help, it will.
So, what did you eventually have to do?
Is this covered under a warranty or replacable (free) by apple?
Thanks

At least one person has reported receiving a new keyboard through the extended service plan with AppleCare. When it happens, they usually begin smelling bad past the one-year warranty.
