ibook smell

I am getting a funky smell coming from my keyboard. I have cleaned the board with some canned air but it still stinks. It doesn't smell like anything burned but more like body odor (yeah, I know, "eww"). I keep my computer pretty clean and I bathe regularly, so I don't know what it can be. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Jeff,

You are correct, but that includes the straight-chain alcohols such as methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol (although I'd rather drink that). Isopropyl alcohol is safe to use on any plastic or rubber material (you can use it to clean the pinch rollers on your tape deck or casette deck - I still have both) although I still wouldn't leave it there in great quantaties for a long time.

One of the advantages of a chemistry background.

Doug

P.S. I do it all the time on mine, at work on others and on those who I visit and take exception to the grime on their machines.

Jeff,

Coles or Woolworths - it's sold as "Isocol" and is rubbing alchololand "antibacterial lotion" appears on the front, under the picture of a crocodile with sunglasses on. It's package size is 345 ml and it costs under $7. You'll find it in the medicine or cleaning aisles. Its barcode number is 93209403. Some Woolworths don't have it while others do.

Well I finally got a new keyboard and NO MORE SMELL!
It is wonderful to no longer worry that someone might think the smell was me!

Cleaning etc did not work - new has - at for a month now!

I am still so grateful that this discussion was hear so I knew I was not crazy.
A funny aside- we have about 12 iBooks set up in a "computer lab" in an elementary school and I noticed the other day - "the smell"
I wonder how many kids or teachers are blaming a smelly kid!

THANK YOU! I thought I was going crazy smelling this funky smell off my keyboard. Does anyone know what causes it? (I've actually encountered this before: the mailboxes in my old apartment building smell the same, as do the CD holders from my local public library, so I'm thinking it might be an adhesive stink.) Is this a pervasive problem or only on certain models? It's not terrible, but, by the same token, I wouldn't tout it as a desirable feature in an iBook and would actually like to get rid of it. I'd love to hear from more users. Thx.
