iPhone 3G not connecting to laptop - first time this has occurred

When I tried to sync my iPhone 3G today, neither it nor the computer seem to recognize each other.

The USB cable is fine - when I plug the cable into the wall plug, the iPhone recognizes it.

My USB ports are fine - my Mouse works in both of them.

I've turned off my iPhone and restarted it. I've reset it. I've restarted the laptop. Still no luck.

This is a MacBook with OS X (10.4.11), and I have the latest version of iTunes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Linda

So it 'chirps' when you plug in the USB cable when it is attached to your Mac, like usual? It should make some kind of sound normally.

My previous iphone developed a preference for one of our three iphone USB cables and wouldn't connect with the other two. My wife's never had a problem and our new 3Gs phones connect with all 3 cables just fine. Whenever I plugged my old iphone into one of the two crabby USB cables, I had to wiggle and wiggle the jack in the iphone to get it to connect. Sometimes it would self-disconnect, like maybe when the cat stepped on it.

So try wiggling or a different cable... Worked for me.

Also this might help, from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
