Specifying the size of a page in Pages

Hi,

I am trying to design a small document on Pages. I would like to set the page size to 8.7 x 5.7 centimeters. I have tried the menu "File > Page Setup > Paper Size > Manage Custom Sizes"; here, I have set 8.7 cm x 5.7 cm, I have set the margins to 0 and I have given a name to this new format. Then I click on "OK", I am back to the page setup window pane, my new format is selected, so I click on "OK" again.

But, when I go back to my original document, the page size is set back to A4. It is driving me crazy. I can set it to many different formats, including A5, C4, C5, US Letter, etc, but not my small 8.7x5.7. Why not?

Thank you for your help.

MacBook (First model), Mac OS X (10.4.9), I also have a MacMini (Intel core duo)

I am able to reproduce something which resembles to the described behavior:

System with at least two different printers connected.
One is set as the default one and is unable to deal with the custom format (my lase printer for instance)
An other one which of course is not set as the default printer.

When I open the document using the custom format, Pages returns to the default printer dropping the custom format.

The fact that Pages doesn't take care of the embedded print record was reported several times, at least since the delivery of iWork '08 but the problem is always here, even in iWork '09 😟

_Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'10 😉

This is indeed the behaviour that I was expecting. However, it does not work: My new size is not taken into account and Pages automatically goes back to the A4 format.
Is there anything I have not done that I should do?

Do you mean that Pages, the application, isn't using your custom sized document each time you start a new document or do you mean the specific document you talked about in your first post?

If you mean your first document do this:
#1 open the document
#2 go to Page set up and choose the new paper size you have already specified
#3 the document should change in paper size. SAVE it!
#4 If you want to have it as a template Save As Template

If you want to always open new docs with the new custom sized paper do this
Go to Pages menu > Preferences > Select Use Template > click on Choose button >Select you new template > click Choose button

Hello,

No, I don't want to use this format forever. Just once. I did what you described here:

But it does not change. I don't know about you but, for me, it does not change.

Yvan Koenig correctly describes my problem. Indeed, I have three configured printers (Canon MP 150, HP Color LaserJet 2600n and Brother MFC-240C).

I am sad it does not work. I will have to rely on OpenOffice, which is less user-friendly.
