iBook Keyboard.

I'm not sure whether it will work, either.

The eBay page says it's for an "opaque" iBook. Is yours opaque? Or is it (like mine) the earlier, glossier "crystal" model?

Another way to tell whether it may work is the color of the ribbon cable. The one on eBay has a white cable. Mine has a green connector cable. I'd be hesitant to try it with mine, fearing that it would need the green cable.

HI Joe, I looked very closely at the keyboard on the e-bay page and the key directly beneath the escape key(esc) and the key above the return/enter on my G3 iBook are different than the e-bay page--it appears that they moved them which may not be a problem but they added a key--The one below the escape is not present on the G3 keyboard--this is a problem unless apple used a universal cable that was used on all keyboards and just opted not to use that contact on my type of G3--
I'm not saying it will not work, but I wouldn't go through the hassle of buying,trying,returning----good luck

If you care or not, Ijust plug in a regular iMac keyboard via usb for all my long inputs.

The keyboards used on the dual usb g3 ibooks and even on the new g4 ibooks all seem to use the same connector that plugs onto the board.

However the difference between g3 and g4 ibook keyboard is the length of the connecting cable.

I recently sold a g3 ibook keyboard ebay and I no longer had g3 ibook to test the keyboard. I tested it on my g4 ibook and although the keyboard worked and the connector fits the ribbon connectors where so different the keyboard would not sit correctly.

I would suggest you unplug the keyboard from your g3 ibook so you can see the length of the ribbon cable if your keyboard looks the same then it will work.

I had the same issue as Tim.

I replaced an iBook G4's keyboard and attempted to put the old one into my 600 MHz G3. The cable was too short and the keyboard wouldnt sit correctly.

I do like the newer keyboard better though 😉.
