USB with arrow pointing to Itunes symbol on Iphone stuck

Hello,

Tried to update the new 3.0 software tonight on my Iphone. There was an error and now the USB with an arrow pointing to the Itunes symbol is stuck on the screen. Itunes and computer with not recognize the phone now either but still makes the noise when you plug it in. I've read a few other posts about this saying to go to a link that shows you how to restore it but I can't power the phone down, it just shows the apple symbol and then goes right back to the USB to Itunes screen. The power off slider won't come up.

How can I fix this?
