2 sets of contacts on my iPhone

I have changed the settings on itunes to not sync my contacts with my computer.

On my iPhone, I have "Contacts on my iPhone" and my ".Me" contacts.

Why do I show two sets of contacts? How can I make it just one-I'm tired of duplicates.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I agree. That is exactly what I did. I "merged" the data on MobileMe, my computer, and my iPhone, and everything is cool. As soon as I enable "push" on the phone, so that new entries on my computer or MoibleMe will be "pushed" to the phone, ALL of the contacts on MobileMe are immediately pushed and I get duplicates of all of them.

Mush easier to disable this "feature" and simply wait to sync when physically attached to the computer...

I think I understand the problem you are having.
You are still syncing from 2 places, your computer and mobileme. It's up to you which method is easier but one of them needs to be disabled. E.g. After I merged the contacts and calendars, I do not have it sync on my computer - only sync on mobileme. So on my itunes, after I connect the iphone, under "info" tab, I unchecked "sync address book" and "sync ical". Essentially only mobileme will do the syncing (with push on). I only have 1 contact and 1 calendar set now. This works better for me as I have more than one computer and I need them all sync via mobileme as well.

To answer a question on how to "delete mobileme" so you can set it up again
go to settings/general/mail,contact,calendar
select your mobileme account - you can just select the big red "delete account"
or
under "contacts" and "calendars" turn to "off"

either way you'll be asked what to do
select "delete from my iphone"
then either turn them back "on" or recreate the mobileme account (if you deleted the account instead of turning it off)

just make sure that next time you connect your iphone to your computer you have contact and calendar sync checked off in itunes.

Yes I think this is a glitch and should be fixed in the next patch.

Did you select merge? that way only 1 copy will be kept on the iphone.
Did that solve the double contact lists issue for you? I know there are different ways of removing duplicate list so it's really up to you which list you want to keep. I just find it more convenient to sync via mobileme push, but whichever way you choose, your contact will be properly synced anyway.

No, you do not quite understand the problem. Sync services is supposed to SYNC ALL devices; computer, iPhone, and MobileMe. Working properly, one should not have to disable one or the other, but should be able to do both. That is, push and sync should work simultaneously to keep all data current and the same across all devices. This works as advertised for mail. I am able to receive push notification of new mail as well as sync across the web, my computer, and my iPhone. The address book should work exactly the same way, but it does not. This is a bug that hopefully will be addressed in a future update.
