HI,

Anytime you update or upgrade system software run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and repair disk permissions BEFORE and AFTER the installation.

Quit any open applications. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

You might need to go to the HP site and see if there is an update for that driver also.

My advice is to first run Disk Utility's verify disk test (not to be confused with the permissions test or repair) to see if your disk is free of any corruption problems. If it passes that test, you might try downloading & applying the 10.5.7 combo update ( http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate) to see if it helps.

My guess is that you have some damaged or missing OS support file issue. If so, the combo update might help since it includes updated replacements for many OS files, not just those that have been updated between 10.5.6 & 10.5.7.

If that doesn't help (& even if it does), make sure you search HP's site for updated drivers or other info related to using this printer with 10.5.7.

There are more things you can try to isolate or remedy your problem. One is to create a new user account just for testing purposes. If the problem disappears, you know something in your home folder is the culprit.

Another is to do an Archive & Install, followed by updating the OS again. If there is system level damage, the combo update can repair it only if the update contains a replacement for the damaged file. Doing the reinstall & update eliminates the possibility that some file like this is the culprit.

Doing both, in the order given, eliminates a lot of potential causes & will be helpful if you contact HP for support, which is another thing you should try.
