Any way to sync only one contact group through bluetooth

I have about 500 contacts in total. When I synched my iPhone 3G (3.0) to my BMW, it sucked in all 500+ contacts. I'd prefer to have a much smaller list in the car. Is there way to have the iPhone only export one contact group, or a set of contact groups? I've heard this is possible on a Blackberry.

Mac Pro 2.8 Ghz (Jan '08), Mac OS X (10.5.7), NVidia 8800GT

Hi,
I am not sure if you are using a Mac to Sync your iPhone or a Windows Machine.
Incase you are using a Mac, then:
1. Create a separate Group in your Address Book in Mac. You can name it 'Car' or anything
2. Drag the contacts you need for your car in this group.
3. Sync your iPhone 3G.
Car Setup:
Once you are in your car,
1. Open Bluetooth on your iPhone
2. Select 'BMW' under bluetooth or incase your car has a different name...
3. You will be presented with several options. Under sync, select 'Car' (or anyother group you made in above step).
Only this Group will be synced to car.
It works quite well with my BMW325i & iPhone 3G

Bharat

This is off quite topic, but since you have BMW thought you may be able to assist.share your experience. A couple questions:

How well are you finding the iPod component of your iPhone works with the BMW iPod adapter? Using my actual iPod I've found with my large music collection it takes forever to scroll through artists from the dashboard control. I've been to see BMW and they tell me there is no fix.

I've also found that with the iPhone connected to the BMW iPod adapter, only the iPod component of the iPhone works. I was hoping I could connect the iPhone to the BMW handsfree AND use it as a source of music. has this been your experience as well?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bharat,

which OS and language do you use on your iphone? I have an 3gs with german language and can only select between all contacts and none. No specific group (of mine 5 groups) is selectable.
Can you please provide me a screenshot of the configuration page where you select the group since the german apple support stated me that they don't know such feature.
Thanks,
Bernd

Hi,

Sorry for late reply [;p]

Incase you have a large music collection on iPod, Scrolling through Artists or Songs,...etc can be quite painful.
I generally use the 'Search Feature' and type in the first three letters, which gets me quite close & almost instantaneously.
Otherwise, the best way would be to use 'Paylists' [:)]

I haven't use the 'Phone Adapter', so no experiences here...

Glad you were able to initialise Phone Features over blue-tooth. Are you able to to sync call History from Phone to Car and Vise versa?

Thanks

Regards,

Bharat

Dear Bernd,

Sorry for late reply.

I am using an iPhone 3G (OS 3.1.2 (7D11))

Just to re-check the steps, on your iPhone 3GS, goto:
1. Settings--->General--->Bluetooth
2. Incase your phone is paired to your car & other computers/accessories, there names should be listed here under 'Devices'
Select Your Car 'Should Read BMW XXXXX'
3. You will be presented with five options
a) Forget this device
b) Sync Contacts (Turn this on)
c) Phone Favourite
d) Phone Recents
e) Other Groups: It is here you have to make changes. By default it's set to 'None'. Your Address Book Groups should be listed here. Select any one of them
Also, I have posted the screen shots at: http://gallery.me.com/bharat76/100054

Hope it works out for you.

Thanks

Regards,

Bharat
