Printer stuck on pause

Just installed 10.5.7 (up from 10.4.11). Macbook Pro will no longer print to a Kyocera-Mita 4035. The print queue indication is stuck on "pause" and does not respond to any attempt to resume the print job.

I see from this forum that there have been complaints about this happening with other printers as well after installing 10.5.7. I have been on the Kyocera website and downloaded the latest OS 10.5 driver but it still won't work. Any suggestions welcome, this is a bit of a headache. Thanks.

Hello Tom. Good to read your got your problem resolved but I think it is important for anyone else who does read this that the enabling of AppleTalk for network printing issues is not always necessary, especially given that you used IP > LPD as your connection protocol. In fact, I believe if you just removed the printer queue that you created using IPP and created another queue using LPD or HP Jetdirect-Socket, then your issue would have been resolved without going anywhere near AppleTalk.

If the printer was set to only using AppleTalk, then the enabling of AppleTalk on the Mac would have been necessary and you would have then created the printer queue by selecting the AppleTalk icon in the Add Printer browser.

OK, for anyone with the same problem on a network (and there are quite a few similar complaints from folk with other printers, I've noticed) here is the fix that worked for me (with thanks to the Kyocera Mita people in Sydney):

1. Activate Appletalk - this is deactivated by default in Leopard, for some reason: System prefs>network>advanced>appletalk and click make appletalk active checkbox.

Delete the printer and then add it again, but using Line Printer Daemon protocol, not Internet Printing protocol.

It works again!

Hi Pahu

I'm no expert, but I did first try setting up a new print queue using LPD. The problem was that the print job began to spool up but froze at "91%". This happened a couple of times and I could not print anything. It was only when I activated appletalk and starte again that it all functioned again.
