Downloading while the computer rests

Hello,

here's a good question, who would know when I go to do computer updates, using dial-up, and I should use the computer I am performing the updates for, when the downloading begins, the message from the downloading states this could take a while. Will the downloading continue after the computer goes into rest mode, from me not using it while it is downloading?
