all image formats are converted to jpg when saving to photos??

Hi,

Does the iphone Photos library saves images only in jpeg format ??
i have downloaded a png file (either from mail attachment or from the web), clicked on the image
in order to save it and saved it to photos. then, i sent an email back with the picture but to my surprise received it as jpg ?
can't i download a png file to photos and save it in its own format ?
my app quite depends on it.... 😟

thanks.

Humor me pls. Take that jpg that came over via email, change the extension from .jpg, back to .png, and see what happens when you try to open it then...

I can't think of an image viewer out there that gives the file name precedence over the actual format of the data.

I'm not concerned with fnp - counting on just the opposite, actually, in that the file itself wasn't altered beyond the suffix on the name. A png is as a png does 🙂

As I asked, pls humor me and wait just a bit for the op to test before throwing a rope over the nearest header, thanks.

Hi

i did not try the PNG renaming yet, but i've tested some jpg photos as well and when sending a photo
over mail iphone seems to change the size of the photo. i'm not 100% sure of this because my way of testing it is to send it from my iphone, than download from the mail to the desktop, keep this version,
than sending it back to the iphone, save it, send it again, and download the second version to the desktop. on each round trip i get different size for the jpg.
why is that ?

Changing the suffix from jpeg to png will accomplish nothing with the possible exception of a crash. Might as well try to set it to .doc or .pdf

Why so closed minded, Scott? The least you could do is try it along with any naysay.

If the file suffix was arbitrarily set to .jpg during the mail transfer, then putting it back to what it was originally would work - it only takes a moment to test, and if it doesn't work, you all get to laugh at me in public....like I said, humor me...you might need the same favor some day 🙂

And sorry to hear your mac crashes if you change the suffix like this...hope you have AppleCare ...
