Canon MP620 Error 306

Hi,

I have been following a really useful post to help resolve my printing problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1750354&tstart=0&messageID=978 6684#9786684

But I am still getting error 306 when I attempt to print. I have installed 7.12.2 of the driver v2.6.6. of the installer, repaired permissions. I checked both the lan settings on the printer and from the utility and both have the same IP address, I can ping. I'm using WPA Personal from Airport on OSX 10.7.

I can see the printer on my wireless network and I can use it to scan but I can not print to it.

Cups log is below if that helps anyone.

I'm really stuck with a new imac and a new printer neither of which want to talk to each other 😟

Wendy.

Hi Wendy,

Since you can scan via the network then we need to assume that something is wrong with the printer driver setup. Some things I suggest you can try next.

1. Reset the printing system. With the Print & Fax pane open, move the mouse over the printers list and hold down the Control key. Click your mouse and then click on Reset printing system. This will remove your current printer queues, both the USB and network.

2. Turn off the printer for 15 seconds and then turn back on again. Once the printer is back on check that the wireless IP address is still the same as before and the connection is active.

3. Open Print & Fax and click + to add a new printer queue. Select More Printers > Canon IJ Network and select the MP620 in the list.

With the printer added again now try printing.

Well, you could try installing the Canon 'CUPS' driver. While I am not a fan of this driver it would give us an alternative for test purposes. And if it does work then there is no reason why you couldn't keep using it. After you install this driver you add the printer queue via the Default browser view. The printer should display as a bjnetwork device.

Hi Wendy,

Sorry for the confusing reply. It was late and I was typing it via the iPhone.

Yes, that is pretty much the idea. The Canon CUPS driver provides an alternate method to adding the printer queue. With the driver software installed the printer becomes visible via the Default browser view. So, in case there is something amiss with the Canon IJ Network Tool, being able to add a new printer queue without using the current non-CUPS driver and the Canon tool is worth trying. If this works then it would suggest something went wrong with your previous driver or tool installation.

You can get the CUPS driver from here...

http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100140602.html

After running its installer, open Print & Fax and remove the current printer queue. Then click to add a new printer and select the Default browser view. The MP620 should be in view with bjnetwork shown as its Kind. Select this and I believe the Print Using menu will change to the Canon driver. If the Print Using doesn't automatically select the MP620, then you can 'select a driver to use' and type 620 to shorten the hit list. Click to Add and hopefully this printer driver will get you printing.

Hey I too had the "Error Number : 306 A communication error has occurred. Make sure that the printer is plugged in, powered-on, and properly connected to your computer" networking my Macbook Pro and a router with my Canon MP620 I too tried changing drivers, reinstalling the canon software, deleting the printer lists etc... etc... I realised the only recent change was the WEP encryption to WPA encryption on the router - I'd read it was more secure to have a WPA so had changed it. I changed the encryption back to WEP hex 64 and removed and then readed the Canon MP620 back on and now it prints with no error code!!! YAY!!! Maybe this will help you too?
