This has been happening since most recent major update. I have been unable to edit some notes on the iphone. When I click in the body of the note, the keyboard sometimes fails to appear, making it impossible to edit the note. I cannot work out what the pattern is - it sometimes appears and sometimes does not - for notes created on the mac and the iphone alike. Seems to have been confused by new functions, as the option "select/select all" does appear. Has anyone else found this and discovered a workaround?
My problem was due to an user error. When I tip on an iPhone note SHORTLY and QUICKLY the key board pad opens and note editing is possible without difficulties. The keyboard pad only "fails" to open when I leave my forefinger on the iPhone screen for a slightly longer time. In this case I only have the option to mark text. I do, however, not consider this a failure but an intended iPhone function.
So, my problem is "solved" by tipping QUICKLY onto existing notes - keyboard pad then opens reliably.
If you haven't already, try restarting the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 46 of the iPhone User Guide.

You can also restore the iPhone to rule out issues with the software running on your iPhone. This article:

I am having the same problem. I shut my phone off every other night, and just turned mine on. It seems to happen after a restart if you go into an existing note before you create a new note. Once you create a new note the keypad appears when works fine for new notes and old notes.
Another strange behavior is that if you cut text from one note, you cannot paste directly into another note. If you leave the note application, you can paste into another application such as paste into a note field in the address book.
So it looks like code to cut text is not pushing the text to the clipboard until you exit the application.
The funny part is once you paste into another app, you can go back into the notes application and paste.
Same problem here - editing of notes on my iPhone no longer possible. The work arounds described here up to now (shut off, creating a new note) do not work for me.
I can write new notes without problems, however, never ever edit them once saved.
Hi - I also cannot edit or add to the notes field in calender. I use it exclusively on macbook and it worked well on previous laptop. How do i do it? - thanks
