rename p2 cards

Hello all. I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question but i really cannot figure it out and i need to in order to get through the p2cms raylight fcp workflow. I need to rename my p2 card when it mounts on the desktop. It mounts as "no name" and in order to take full advantage of the worklflow (from what i understand) i need to rename the card for ingesting.

i have no write access so i can't change the metadata in p2cms or the card name.

I did serach on line for a while and just cna't figure it out. maybe it is such a basic problem. nonetheless...i would any help. thanks!

Well, you can rename the cards with 3rd party software like Raylight or Shotput P2. But there is no need really...that isn't the proper workflow. The workflow needs to be that you make folders on a separate hard drive, name THOSE, then offload the cards to that drive. Editing off of the card really should only be done in high pressure (news) type situations. Always offload and backup your footage, THEN import.

Thanks Shane for your response. I guess I still do not understand this part of the workflow. I have watched the raylight tutorial video several times and I'm trying to do the part where Dave renames the card and adds metadata through p2cms. I can't do any of that becuase I have no write access. So how do I use p2cms to injest.

I'm close to just importing the mxf files right into fcp. I am recording audio separately anyway so syncing is in my future. However I don't know if this is stable and if it will cause me problems down the road when I'm trying to color and final export.

I need to have two drives that are exactly the same since the director and I will be in different cities and plan to pass project files back and forth.

Anyhelp on any of this would be very appreciated. Thanks!!!
