Is it greyed out with a red question mark? Check all the cabling. It means the IF is offline (=unplugged). It could also mean there are no or the wrong drivers installed.
Which interface is it? And that driver, is that the latest on +the manufacturers' website+ you could find? If you got the driver from a disc that came with the IF, it may be outdated.
And what sort of MIDI-controller have you hooked it up to?

If the icon is greyed-out, that means it either isn't connected (check cables) or it is disabled.

You don't say what interface you have, or what versions of your applications.

Visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are any known issues or bug reports, & if appropriate, download the latest version that is definitely compatible with your setup.

It won't hurt (and maybe even will help) to download and install the latest driver.

Is the USB (power) light coming on at all?
To what USB port is it connected? Is it on a hub? Don't do it, it gets too little power from a hub. Plug it directly into an USB port.

And have you tried the "advanced driver" settings switch?
