Olympus E-P1 RAW support?

Anybody have any idea how long it will take to get RAW support for the Olympus E-P1?

Ah, I wanted to open a brand new topic but this one is fine.

Indeed, Adobe released Camera Raw 5.5 and DNG Converter 5.5 which handle E-P1 RAW files.

But, as stated in this thread on Adobe forums : http://forums.adobe.com/message/2102988#2102988 , I find that the produced DNGs are unreadable by Aperture (though they are fine with Lightroom for instance).
The guys at Adobe advise me to bring the problem here as they assure that the produced files are valid DNGs.

Thanks in advance.

The E-P1 Kit lenses produce distorted RAW images which need to be corrected for (the JPEGs have this correction done and the Olympus software does it as well). I wonder if this is what causes the DNGs from Micro4/3 lenses not to be recognised.

Perhaps someone who has loaded a DNG into CS4 could tell us whether the distortion (a barrel distortion apparently) is corrected for?

About a month ago, Adobe listed a change to the DNG spec to allow lens distortion correction parameters to be added to the metadata part. The update for the DNG converter and CS4 is definitely using that spec as there is a lot of distortion in the new lenses from Olympus and Panasonic.

It is my guess that Apple is not supportive of the DNG spec (beyond camera support where DNG is the native type like in the Leica M8 and MFD backs) because this very reason: DNG is a moving target not controlled by the manufacturer that but under control of their competitor (Lightroom). Because of that, until, say the Leica M9 comes out on 9/9/09, I don’t see Aperture supporting this aspect of DNG.

Something tells me we are close to an Aperture 3 release.

The Pen camera is the #3 seller in Japan and racing upwards fast in other markets. Apple's inability to update RAW camera profiles without an OS update is a weak spot in the OS, and may be corrected in Snow Leopard. Or in a new Aperture where profiles can be updated separately.

When Apple is this silent for this long, something is up.

It's hard to believe there aren't more queries about RAW support for the Olympus EP-1. The camera has been out for 3 months and is selling well. The software that comes with the camera is horrendous. It is very amateurish in that there is no File menu and no Quit command. It can't import picture stored on the hard drive. And forget about editing with it. This same software is used for updating the camera, lens and flash firmware which can render the camera unusable if a problem occurs. I love the camera but wish I had waited until RAW support was available in Aperture first.
