Scanning using HP PSC 2175

Have you tried using Rosetta with it? Open up Applications folder or wherever you installed VueSacn. Single click the VueScan icon. This will highlight the icon. Press command i and the properties will come up. Check the box "Open using Rosetta". Now open VueScan and see if it works.

I am having the same problem with VueScan locking up. I tried what you describe with Rosetta, and the same problem occurs.

Any ideas?

I have the same 2175 HP printer/scanner and cannot install their scanning software with 10.5.8

Try Image Capture.

All of the HP PSC-class multifunction devices of that age have problems with Leopard which are known, and which will not be fixed because they have been abandoned by HP. The best that you are likely to see is to get print-only drivers; scanner drivers will not be updated. Some are supported by 3rd-party scanner systems, but some others, as you have discovered, are not.

The solution is simple: buy another device or, where possible, drop back to Tiger. You are extremely unlikely to get this one to work with Leopard.

I farmed my old PSC-class MFD out to a WinXP machine. (It didn't work properly with Vista, either.)

If that device is anything like my old PSC1350, it never worked properly with Image Capture in the first place and is unlikely to start now.

Be that as it may, I have no problem using HP Image Zone to scan with Leopard and my HP PSC 1510 AIO hooked up to my unsupported G4. All I can suggest is to ensure you have the latest software from HP, the latest drivers via Software Update, and delete/readd the printer.

If the HP scanning software is working, use it. That will usually get best results. (I'd advise using 3rd-party software for printing, but not for scanning. HP's stuff works best with its hardware for scanning.)

I've never got ImageCapture to work correctly with any HP multifunction device.
