It's so annoying that my safari browser starts to open a web page automatically every now and then. I've tried to reset safari, clear the history and clean the cookies, but it doesn't really work. Even though after I close safari, the web page will still automatically jump out at times. Anyone can help me? It's driving me crazy right now.

Mac OS X (10.5.7)

    Hi

    Welcome to Apple Discussions

Which version of Safari are you using?

Is the web page one with which you are familiar? If so, go to Safari Preferences>General panel. There, check which page is set to open in the New Page or New Window section. You can set the page/tab opening command via the Drop Down Menu.

Safari 4.0.2. The web page is a strange site. I have never visited or seen it before. I wonder if that is a trojan or virus? Anything I can do to clean that?

    Hi

No viruses on Macs. Probably a nusiance redirect.

Go to your Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences>ByHost folder. Remove any entry there beginning with com.apple.safari (do not be concerned if nothing is found).

Also, add these DNS server codes to your Network panel in System Preferences:

Click on your internet connection - either Ethernet or Airport, then "advanced". In the DNS panel enter on separate lines the following OpenDNS codes: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Select "OK", then "apply".

In the Network panel, if Ethernet or Airport (whichever you use) is not at the top of the list, click on the "gear icon" at the left bottom. Select "set service order". When the help box opens drag your connection type to the top of the list. Select "apply" when complete.

Lastly, go to the Finder: Applications>Utilities folder. Open Terminal.app. In the application window, copy/paste the following: dnscacheutil -flushcache

    Restart Safari.

Go to the Safari Menu>Reset Safari. Select "empty the cache", then reset.

Last step: Safari Preferences>Security>Show Cookies. Type the name of the web site in the spotlight panel. Remove any cookies that appear.

I did exactly what you told me, but unfortunately, it's still not working. What should I do next?

Was anything related to that site in the ByHost folder, or in the Cookies list?

Byhost has nothing, but the cookies: www.jixian.net
That's the page, but actually, safari first trying to open the above page but then it never, it later goes to http://www.loutui.com/, which is a lose-fat product website.
