Error 0xE8000065

OK so I was on 2.2.1 on my iPhone with iTunes 8.1.1 and everything was ok. I updated to 8.2 and updated my iphone to 3.0. At first itunes displayed a message saying my iphone was detected but couldnt be identified properly and said to disconnect and reconnect. I did so and now it says "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065). And everytime I unplug and reconnect iTunes displays this message, and sometimes it doesnt even recognize my iPhone. My pc recognizes the iPhone as a Camera(??) but iTunes does nothing... I also pluged my 1G iPod Touch and the same message is displayed... Can someone help??

This has been happening to me for a few weeks. Same error. Today after it happened again, I unplugged my lightning cable from one USB port in my computer and put it in a different port.

iTunes opened just fine and went through the backup process flawlessly.

Can't say why this fixed it, but it did.

Thanks ob_one and jordanlund. I got mine to work by uninstalling the bottom 6 "USB Root Hub" entries in Device Manager and also restarting the 3 services ob_one recommended. It worked without a hitch the next time I connected and I did not lose anything or have to restore anything. Sorry that I cannot say which of the two tricks worked, but I did them both in about 5 minutes and I am happpy. THANKS!!

I have the error 'This iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device is not started'

The problem is that the service is started and restarting it doesn't resolve.

I have been using iphone fine on itunes 9.2 for ages no problems running windows 7 then strangely it is now coming up with this error.

It connects fine on my custom built pc but not on this HP Pavillion DV2620ea notebook.

I have tried using the Apple Mobile Device older drivers from my PC but no change. Also uninstalled all apple software and reinstalled, still the same.

I have tried the bios Cstate enabling, disabling. Have rolled back to 4 different chipset versions. All with absolutely no change. I have even tried a different windows profile in case it was a corrupt profile.

Using an external USB hub doesn't work either, nor does disabling the AV.

I fix computers for a living but this has got me stumped. Any ideas much appreciated!

I had this problem with my 1st Gen iPod Touch.. never fixed it. I bought a 4th Gen iPod Touch the other day thinking it would work.. connected it and got the error, went through the whole stage of it showing up as a camera, not an ipod.. all that ****. I was given a iPhone 3GS today.. connected it and i got the error.
if this is the same for you, if you're running windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 10..heres how to fix it.
Right click the iTunes logo
click properties
click the 'compatibility' tab
tick 'run this program in compatibility mode for' and choose Vista service package 2.

this worked for me, hopefully it works for you.

Hi
I did the following things to solve the issues with the error:

1) Updated the BIOS with the BIOS Update tool that came on the CD with the Motherboard.
2) Enabled c-State in the BIOS
3) Re-installed the latest version of Itunes
4) Held down the Power off button and the Home button at the same time for about 10 seconds to force the Ipad to restart.

My Ipad is connected at one of the front USB ports.
My system:
windows 7 64 bit
Maximus 3 formula
I7 CPU
