Oct 28, 2009 12:29 PM in response to SupraPRby maciver,Enabling the C states was also the solution in my case. Here's my hw spec:
CPU: Core i7-860

Oct 29, 2009 5:13 PM in response to ninintothevoidby britintexas,Hi,
Thanks for the post!
After installing Windows 7 Professional 64 bit I installed 64 bit version of iTunes. Successfully sync'd an iPod Nano and Classic, but got the 0xE8000065 error when trying to sync both an iPhone and iPod Touch. After several hours of messing around I found this post, changed C-State in the BIOS from "DISABLED" (default) to "ENABLED", and problem solved. -
Oct 29, 2009 5:54 PM in response to britintexasby hidden72,I've enabled C-State, and it seems as though the synchronization process at least gets started and some of my applications start to sync over, but it always fails before all of the apps are finished and definitely before any music starts moving over.

Nov 2, 2009 4:36 PM in response to talexanderby Hill60,Shouldn't Microsoft fix this, it seems to be related to the way their OS handles USB? -
Nov 2, 2009 4:50 PM in response to Hill60by qtip96,Well, there is no conclusive evidence pointing to the OS. For example, in my testing I am able to connect 20 other USB devices with no issues. It could be the chipset manufacturer -- Intel or could be Apple's USB driver not behaving correctly. Just too many variables at this point. -
Nov 3, 2009 11:08 AM in response to qtip96by Joe Jacobs,I'm having the same issue as well. iPhone begins syncing then crashes half way. Most of the time it crashes during backup, sometimes during the actual syncing. I'm on a Compaq Presario CQ50-104AU. Running Windows 7 Professional x64. Processor is an AMD Turion 64 X2. -
Nov 4, 2009 5:03 PM in response to hidden72by Misahel,I was having the same issue on my new system. iTunes would freak, spit out the error while Win 7 would spew up the "MTB Device Driver Failure".
I can confirm that setting the C-State in the BIOS to "Enabled" (set to "Auto" be default) fixed the problem. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P.
I hope you are all able to resolve the issue as easily.
Now if Apple would just fix Quicktime so that I can SEE the controls in 64bit Windows.. -
Nov 4, 2009 5:15 PM in response to plus613by Misahel,Hey plus613, I'm running the exact same motherboard as you.
The C-State for the GA-P55-UD4P can be found in the BIOS as follows.
1)MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T)
A)Advanced Frequency Settings
1)Advanced CPU Core Features
a)C3/C6/C7 State Support
It is set to "Auto" by default. I switched to "Enabled" and the iPhone was happy. -
Nov 7, 2009 4:22 PM in response to Misahelby iTouch RFC,Hello Experts
Thankyou so much. Have had no end of issues with my 1st Gen iPod Touch since upgrading hardware and software. System is Asus P7P55D with Intel i5 processor, windows 7, 64 bit. iPod was basically bricked. Even Apple store in Manchester were unable to help.
Read that this BIOS setting could possibly fix my issue with restore. Well it did - no more errors & got iPod synced. Lost most of my app data, but at least got back a working iPod that was ready to go in the bin. Thankyou very much guys and girls.

Nov 11, 2009 9:55 AM in response to SupraPRby moenga,This is happening to me also. After installing Windows 7-64, the sync with my Ipod freezes after a couple of songs transfers. Tried everything imaginable: Itunes reinstall, execute with compability to VIsta, energy safe mode off to USB ports/hubs, cable change, restore Ipod. I have a Acer Aspire M3641, lastest ITunes version, latest software on Ipod. Please Microsoft, Apple, Intel, whoever, WAKE UP !!! Code 0xE8000065 -
Nov 11, 2009 7:36 PM in response to SupraPRby funkybrewster,I had this exact problem. I have an original iPhone, plugged directly to my Power Mac. I installed the update (with the latest version of iTunes), and I got bricked! My phone was stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and iTunes wouldn't even recognize it. I tried several things I found all over the internet, including in these forums. After talking with a programmer friend, I went to the AT&T store to see about getting a new SIM card. That didn't work, so I made an appointment at the Apple store, thinking that surely, they'd just try to sell me a new iPhone. One of the first things the guy told me was that he probably wouldn't be able to do anything and that it would cost $200 for a replacement... which is silly since the new ones only cost $99, but I digress. So, he connected it to his computer, and voila! it worked again! I took it home, connected to my Power Mac once again, and restored my old data. I wish I could tell you the reasons why this worked for me, but I really have no idea. Good luck everyone! This is an incredibly frustrating ordeal! -

Nov 18, 2009 6:02 AM in response to SupraPRby RoyGrubb,I had this problem and found that in my case it can be avoided by closing down the Lavasoft Firewall that I run on Windows Vista.
I have tried setting up the firewall so that iTunes is allowed to do anything. That doesn't solve it, so I guess it's some other background process that iTunes uses.
I'll be getting in touch with Lavasoft.
