It depends on what type they are. Standard .ttf fonts can be copied over as is and used the same as any other font in OS X. You can also use Windows Type 1 PostScript font in one particular way. The Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), starting with the CS2 suite, can read these fonts. Place them in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/ folder and you will be able to use Windows Type 1 PostScript fonts with the Adobe programs. This is the ONLY place this will work. All other Mac applications won't have a clue what to do with the paired .pfb and .pfm files. If there is no folder named "Fonts" at the location I noted, simply create it.

PC Type 1 PostScript fonts are paired. Each individual font typeface has both a .pfm and .pfb file. If either one is missing, they won't work. Make sure you place both into the same folder. The file name before the period will be identical, followed by one each of the suffixes named above. Two examples:

SIG ___.PFB
SIG ___.PFM

QSAO __.PFB
QSAO __.PFM

do you know how can I know what kind are the fonts: rageItalic ?

Sorry, your sentence is pretty vague. Do you mean how do you know what type of font it is?

I think you have extensions hidden (the default in Windows), so you're only seeing rageItalic and not the full file name. Right click on rageItalic and choose Properties. It should show you the full name of the font. Most likely, it's a TrueType font and the name will be something like "rageitalic.ttf".

Hi Kurt,

I am in the same boat as this other user, and I came across this thread. I have tried to copy some of my font files (both .pfm and .pfb files) into the directory /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts, but the font whose files I've copied does not seem to be appearing in the list of fonts in Photoshop. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

I think I see what's wrong. Doing a little more testing here, I was able to duplicate your problem.

If you put the Windows Type 1 PostScript fonts in the...

HardDrive/Users/your_account/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/

...folder, then that's exactly what happens. Illustrator can see the fonts, but not Photoshop or InDesign.

They must be placed in the...

HardDrive/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/

...folder. Then all of the Adobe apps will be able to see and use the fonts.
