Re: Skype - just bought Plantronics headset and had the same problem, however, I restarted the ibook with the headset plugged in and it worked ok. There doesn't seem to be any way of configuring the headset without a restart.
Why, when I am using Skype, does the microphone on the headset function normally but the incoming audio come through the system speakers/external speakers connected via the headphone socket (yes, I have selected the headset in System preferences as output device)? It's infuriating! When listening to other audio, the sound comes through beautifully on the headset. Anyone have any ideas? The Logitech web site is hopeless...

I have just purchased and hooked up Logitech 350 with microphone. My problem is reverse to the original post, in that, the microphone does not work. It is recognized by the computer but the output is not recieved by the person at the at the other end, when using Skype. Any suggestions. The Logitech service sugested that the USB drivers need to be updated but I was unable to find anything to down load.

If you go into the skype preferences and select audio it detects the device (or at least it does for me) and then you can carry on as usual till u next unplug the head set
