VPN and same ip range

I am having trouble setting up VPN at my work. It connects fine from home, but I am trying to connect to a 10.x.x.x network through vpn. The problem seems to be we also have a local 10.x.x.x network. Is there a way to force either an ip or a range of ips to go through the vpn when it is connected? I have googled this and can't find anything, maybe I am not using the right networking language, being a designer, lol. Any help would be great.
