installing new soft synths into logic pro

installing new soft synths into logic pro

i just downloaded a free soft synth, and want to use it on logic, but i dont know how you install it so that it can be used in logic like all the other synths like the ES1 etc. can anybody help?

macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Or it comes with an installer that will put it in the right place for you (you see Installer or .pkg files, or you have something ending in .component ; you have to drag that to either the *Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components* or the *Users/'you'/Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components* folder.
Keep in mind that Logic can only 'see' and use AU plugins, not VST.

hmm well it has two files one .exe and one .dll but i dont know whether it is VST or not how do i find that out?

That doesn't matter, because those are Windows files and will not work in OS X anyway. See on the makers' website if they also have an AU version. If they don't, you can't use it.

ohh its windows is it, oh i didnt know that, ah well, ill have to deal with the logic synths then, thanks for you help anyways

How do I find these folders? I cut and pasted in the folder search and nothing came up?

Go to the Finder, open your Mac HD in a new window, set the View to List by hitting ⌘-2. Use the *disclosure triangles* to navigate the folders - you could see those triangles as the / in the syntax.
So it looks like this for Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
