Strange behavior by Excel after migrating to Mac Mini with OS 10.5.7

I recently upgraded to a new Mac mini (from an older G4 mini) and used the Migration Assistant to move over all my documents and non-Apple applications including Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. The process was straightforward and worked well.

However, since doing this, Excel has behaved strangely when inputting data into a new cell or changing an existing cell. The keyboard seems to stop working and I can't enter any data or press "enter". I have to move the cursor to another cell and click on it to clear this condition. Unfortunately, it is not consistent and I can't re-create it every time. Most annoying.

No other Office applications seem to be misbehaving. Has anyone else had this problem? Can it be related to the fact that the Version of Office (version 11.5.5) was originally purchased for a G4 machine and I'm now running it on the Intel platform? I'll post the same query on the MS forums.

Mac Mini (Intel), iBook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.7), Samsung LCD monitor, Brother 4in1 printer/scanner, wireless router/cable modem

Yes indeed. I had precisely the same issue with Office 2004's Excel, in a very similar context. (I migrated from a G4 MDD to a new Mini.) I reinstalled Office 2004 from the original CD, without success. Tossed out preferences, etc. Finally I gave up trying to fix it, and downloaded a 30 day trial version of Office 2008. Excel in that suite works, and I can save files in a 2004 compatible format.

At the end of the 30 days I'll have to decide what to do. Perhaps someone else will post a fix for 2004 before that.
