New Ibook and World of Warcraft

I waited for the new Ibook cause I thought it would have a dramatically increased graphics card.. but I'm not saavy enough in computers to know if this new one HAS a better graphics card....

anyway, i wanna play WoW on my Ibook... I already have a 1 gig ram chip. which'll make it 1.5 gigs total...

anyone know how the game might run????

On my 1.5 powerbook it ran just alright....

I played a little (10 hours) of WoW on the previous model ibook,
which has an ATI 9200. It was not smooth, but I found
it playable (if you're used to high frame rates on a PC
then you might notice more than me).
This was a while ago, before the WoW patch, and the OSX patch
that supposedly improved performance noticably.

The new ibook has a 9550, which I believe should help performance noticably.
It still has "only" 32MB VRAM, 64MB would obviously be better,
but I wouldn't say it's crippled considering the price of the ibook.

Hope that helps a little.

Edit: I would agree that the powerbook should give much better performance for games.

Greg,

The problem with someone "confirming" this, is that such a conclusion is purely subjective. Someone even already claimed that it ran decently on the ATI Radeon 9200. It's all a matter of opinion.

That is, unless someone knows a way to get the FPS on the game.

A good way to confirm this in your own eyes would be to head to an Apple Store and ask them if you could demo this game. They may be able to actually do it for you.

I don't think you can demo it-it is a MMORPG.

According to my box, minimum specs are:

Mac Os X 10.3.5 or newer-933mhz G4/G5 processor-512mb RAM, DDR RAM recommended-Nvidia or ATI GPU with 32mb VRAM, 64 recommended-4.00gb HD space-56k or better internet connection.

My guess, at the minimum specs it will run very poorly-to the point of being unplayable. My iMac with 128mb video card, 1.5gb of RAM , 3 mbs DSL runs at 30 FPS(which looks awesome).

I understand it is subjective. I really want to hear from people that have played it on the new iBooks, not the older G3s. While it may be an opinion based on previous experiences, I still want to know how people that play WoW think it looks on the iBook. I dont really care about it looking good, just handling well.

I thought about going to an apple store, but there isnt one near me and I dont think they could play it for me, unless I brought along someone's WoW account information or someone at the store had an account they could log on with.

Also, what do you mean about "get the FPS on the game"? The only thing that means to me is "first person shooter", and that doesnt sound appropriate in context.

Hiya - it works just great, a supremely playable experience at 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions. I was stunned at how well this game ran, and I come from a 'PC graphics fanatic' background. It's funny how supposed lesser games struggle, whilst WOW pretty much flies.

The only time I had any kind of issue was when flying a Gryphon 'taxi' - as you're moving so fast through the landscape ther's a little lag as you try to catch up, but that was the only issue I found.

Sure you can tweak a few settings here and there, but I spent most of my time on my iBook with WOW, and less time with it on my iMac, so hopefully that tells you something.

Hehe, dont worry about the graphic card. Check my specs and u can see why. I have been playing wow for a while now and think the iBook does a pretty good job.My character has reached lvl 60 wich is the highest possible and things still work okay, even in the high lvl instances where you are 15-40 players on the same screen whacking at some monsters. Sure there are some slow downs, but the problems usually is the server and not my lack of ram/graphics card.
