No More LiveType?

Is that right? I see it's still available w/FCE. Sad. I like LT for quick and simple titles without the fuss of Motion.

I think we can regard LiveType as DeadType as of now.

I'm using FCP 4.5HD and LT hasn't worked for me for at least 12 months. It's time for me to go FCS3 and do it all via Motion. I'm not complaining, the upgrade price to FCS3 is excellent.

That would be great if the new install of FCS3 leaves LiveType intact. I am still interested in some of the Textures and Objects that are present in my version of LiveType (v2.02) that was installed from FCS1 if this is possible.

My other dilemma before installing FCS3 is hard drive space. I would like the entire application set of FCS3 to be installed, along with all the extra content on my internal drive (200GB). However, I only have 28 GB left on my hard drive. I presently have all the apps and extra content from FCS1 loaded on the internal drive drive.

Without clearing off another 30GB or so of content, would the new install of FCS3 replace most of the extra content fro FCS1, so I would not have to clear off too much more space?

I would hope not to have to much redundancy in files between FCS1 and FCS3. Will the FCS3 installer be smart enough to see duplicate files and replace them; not taking up too much extra space?

On page 19 of the FCS3 install booklet it mentions that instead of choosing "new custom content location", you should choose the "same custom content location you used when you installed the previous version of Final Cut Studio". I do not know where that location is. I think I just did the "Default" install. If I do the "Default" install again, will FCS3 installer recognize the previous content and leave it in its current location, adding any new content items, updating older items and removing obsolete items?

I cannot install until I know the answers to these questions about keeping LiveType Textures and Objects intact, and replacing older FCS1 files to save hard drive space. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have purchased the FCS3 upgrade and would love to install it.

Well, you're not out NOTHING if you use Livetype as your main CG, and need to expand to additional new systems...

How do I get Livetype on the NEW machines? 😟

And frankly - we don't even use Livetype much for Motion graphics, just the ease of creating a template and having an intern type in the updated info. I don't expect to train interns in Motion for THAT. We just need editable layouts that can be converted to .tga's for realtime playback on the FCP timeline.

Livetype was always the weakest part of FCP suite as far as a true CG goes, but with NOTHING or Motion as the only choices.... GIMME LIVETYPE BACK!!!! 😟

If you've never used either, fire up Livetype and see how long it takes you to intuit how to create a title with some motion effect.

Then fire up Motion and try to do something similar.

For what it's worth I made my first simple project in Motion in a half hour. I've fiddled around with Livetype for a few hours and come up with nothing. Motion makes sense to me and I use it regularly to develop my openers/lower 3rds, any graphics I need. For the life of me I can't make sense of Livetype.

Apple ticks me off!

Apple acquired Live Type. It was India Titler on the PC. Great program if you really know how to use it. Just after I bought India Titler (got it on sale for $900.00) Apple bought them and shut it down ont he PC.

Shortly after it shows up as Live Type on the Mac. Many years pass and I buy FCP3.

GREAT! I got my live type back and with all the data that was sold separately on PC as add ons.

Awesome.

Now I upgrade to FCP4 and the take it away.

What the crap! Apple, you really make a guy want to go back to the PC.

Live type is not for every circumstance but it definitely has its place!

They didn't take it away if you have it on your Mac already with FCP3. There will just be no more new versions and probably no updates.

If you are new to FCP and just get FCP4, well, you never had Livetype, so you are missing nothing.

People whined when DEC desupported RSX11M; Microsoft killed DOS; Apple killed OS9. Things change - get used to it. And now Apple is desupporting G5 computers. I have several of them; so what? I'll live with 10.5.7 or so.

Oh just bloody Great. Well done again Mac.
I have just found out Livetype is not in the new package.
All my title font's can't be manipulated in Motion. I know Motion is great but I have around 6 years of Livetype titles and lower 3rd's I use that are now useless.
If anyone has a "get-round" to use these I would appreciate it.
I'm not in the mood to re-created hundred's of Livetype screens.
Mad I'm screaming..........

No More LiveType?
