No More LiveType?

Is that right? I see it's still available w/FCE. Sad. I like LT for quick and simple titles without the fuss of Motion.

I see the same thing. So...
Will our current LiveType still work with the new FCP?
What is the future of LiveType as a program?
What about the TONS of graphics we already have created and use regularly in LiveType?

And what about the new FCP systems we purchase? No character generator AT ALL? What are we supposed to use for titles, lower 3rds and other fonts? Motion!!??

I know it was just announced, but hopefully we'll get some LiveType answers soon for those of concerned with it's demise.

What!? Is a worm in this Apple?! For four years I've been creating dynamic titles with LiveType and now it's gone?! This is a valuable part of my videography business. Seriously, I don't have time to recreate all my graphics, and learn a new piece of software. I still have 24 weddings to edit this year. All I can say is, Without LiveType, the benefits of the new release have gone to zero. No upgrade for our company.

It may be possible to do a better job with titles using motion, but it is a general purpose generation. LiveType was designed to do one thing, and do it simply as pretty well: create animated titles.

If you've never used either, fire up Livetype and see how long it takes you to intuit how to create a title with some motion effect.

Then fire up Motion and try to do something similar.

I for one hope live type continues to function, even if just the extant version.

But it is possible that Motion 4 with its text tools can make it easy enough. I don't have a big investment in LiveType set ups, but others may.

Does the FCS3 installer install the LiveType Application still? With a FRESH install?

I don't believe that LiveType is included with the new FCS package at all. It is not listed among the included applications:

"What's in the Box"
• DVDs with Final Cut Pro 7, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 3, Color 1.5, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Cinema Tools 4.5, and Apple Qmaster 3.5
• Content DVDs
• Printed and electronic documentation"

Upon reading new posts, it appears that will still function after installing the new FCS package: http://www.kenstone.net/discussions/read.php?3,14496,14496#msg-14496

and from: http://www.kenstone.net/discussions/read.php?3,14408,14489#msg-14489
"if you do a clean install you won't have any problems with LiveType. Just re-install LiveType from your FCS2 discs (custom install) and it will run side by side with the new FCS. If you don't want to go to the trouble of a clean install right now you can just upgrade for now and do a clean erase and install when you jump to Snow Leopard. This will be advised."

I can confirm this.

I finished installing the FCS3 upgrade just a little bit ago. LiveType still works and LiveType projects can still be loaded into FCP7 and Motion 4. I did the upgrade, not a clean install so LiveType and all its content was left intact.

I noticed as the FCS3 installer was running that it reported "installing LiveType support". This is just the stuff FCS3 needs to deal with LiveType files and not the LiveType application itself.

Motion 4 does install the same Livefonts that came with FCS1 + FCS2. It even puts them in the same place as before: Library/Application Support/LiveType/LiveFonts.

This is all good news for people that use LiveType and have lots of content for it and projects already created with it. Basically if you were using LiveType before, you're out nothing.
