Changing Text Message Alerts

I just got finished talking with a iphone tech at AT&T about importing some new text message alerts I downloaded. He informed me after some digging that the feature was only available for in coming calls, and not text alerts. I would wonder why these text tones are available if in fact they are useless for the intended use. I hope others have the same concern in this matter as do I.

Downloaded from where? The iTunes Store? The only thing there is ringtones.

The iPhone has never supported anything but the included text message alerts and I've never found any iPhone text alert tones.

Yes downlaoded from itunes 8 and it was on the itunes store list, why would they list it if it can't be accomplished? Sounds ike a rip off to me...other than this small peeve the iphone is great and my only choice for cellphone in the future.BTW I bought the 32gb overkill, but thought with future app's and games might need the need the capacity.

I have never seen iTunes sell or make available SMS tones. The iPhone can only change the ring tone at this time. I know because I would love to change the SMS tone, but can not. Not unless the phone is jail broken and I have no plans to do that.

Text alerts are not customizable as of yet without jail breaking the iPhone...custom ring tones are all we can do for now...

Send feedback to Apple if you'd like this to be added in the future...

You are confusing ringtones available in iTunes with a text alert tone. There are NO text alert tones in the iTunes Store hence there is no "rip off".

search 'text alert' in itunes and you will get many results.

imo these are misleading and should be removed.

or, even better, apple should make it that we can change the text alerts in their next software update (please) 🙂
